An ancient art, karate attempts to instill in its practitioners a sense of morality, dignity, and self-respect, along with physical development and mental well-being.
Regardless of the age of the practitioner, the true spirit of karate enables one to develop respect for his/her fellow man by physical and mental growth, and most importantly to develop
a perfection of character.
Since the karate-ka's constant pursuit is directed toward the perfect control of mind and
body, and since his whole attitude is based on peace and harmony with others, he will never advocate violence nor look for trouble. When an individual has a true confidence in himself, he
can be polite and respectful to others. (S)He does not have to show off. (S)He can act with humility and dignity. His/Her physical strength and mental energy can be used for constructive
causes such as helping others and improving society.
Sustained by a sense of pride, self-respect, and inner-peace, we strive for victory over our
own weaknesses. To conquer fear, to know true honor, and to develop the courage to refuse failure is our real goal. The respect we seek is our own. The victory that we seek is to conquer ourselves.
