About Hot Springs Karate

Mission

At Hot Springs Karate, our mission is to provide the highest quality Goju Ryu Karate-do training in a safe and supportive environment. We are committed to helping our students achieve their goals, whether it's improving their physical fitness, learning self-defense skills, or simply having fun. We strive to instill discipline, respect, and confidence in all of our students.

Instructors

We've trained as a family for 31 years, traveling to Naha, Okinawa in 2016 and again in 2019 training with over 1100 practitioners from 40 different countries. Training sessions focused on Goju-Ryu fundamentals (basics), kata and strengthening exercises (Hojo Undo). Cultivating resilience, discipline, and humility by challenging practitioners to adapt to new training philosophies and environments, ultimately enhancing both technical skill and mental, emotional, and social well-being.

Foundation

Kata in Goju Ryu Karate- do are not theoretical; they were designed for survival, incorporating both "hard" (closed-hand/linear) and" soft" (open-hand/circular) techniques to fight close range and are meant to be broken down into Bunkai (application techniques). This includes close-quarters striking, vital-point attacks, joint manipulation, throwing, and choking to handle real-world assaults.
